Survey - Deep-Sea ECOPs

This survey will enable the assessment of Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) aspirations, needs and challenges with the aim of strengthening their engagement with the science-to-policy interface through the Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) network.

DOSI is a global network of experts which integrates science, technology, policy, law and economics to advise on ecosystem-based management of resources in use in the deep ocean, and on strategies to maintain the integrity of deep-ocean ecosystems within national jurisdictions.

This survey intends to:

(i) Identify aspirations, needs and challenges faced by ECOPs from around the globe, and in particular those from low to middle-income countries, to engage in policy-making processes – at national, regional and international levels;

(ii) Examine the current role of DOSI in supporting ECOPs engagement in policy processes and

(iii) Propose a set of recommendations for the DOSI Steering Committee to take forward with a view to increasing ECOPs capacity for engaging in policy and decision-making.

Who should complete this survey?

Anyone who identifies as a deep-sea ECOP or ECOP interested and working with the deep-sea is invited to complete this survey. For the purpose of this survey, ECOPs are defined as individuals who have, in the past ten years, completed professional training in areas relevant to the advancement and application of deep-sea science for sustainable development and are active in, including, but not limited to: deep-ocean science and technology; business or industry; civil society and nongovernmental organisations; or policy.

How will the data be used?

Data from this survey will be analysed and presented as a report to members of DOSI Steering Committee and the DOSI Core Team. Following refinement, the report will be available for public access. If you are interested in receiving the final report, please share your email when responding to the questionnaire. Importantly, this survey is anonymous, and should you register your email, it will not be shared outside the DOSI leadership.
